SEISMIC RETROFIT OF STEEL FACTORY BUILDINGS WITH DUCTILITY ENHANCEMENT APPROACH: PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS
نویسندگان
چکیده
The majority of steel factory buildings constructed in 1960-70’s Japan do not display satisfactory seismic performance due to the lack strength brace-end joints or foundations. retrofit works that simply add lateral bracings would be undesirable because it prevent ordinary operations. Then, another approach could alternative by enhancing ductility each structural member. In this study, practical applications existing are presented and efficiency with enhancement is discussed.

Dissipative Bracing-Based Seismic Retrofit of R/C School Buildings
A dissipative bracing system incorporating pressurized fluid viscous spring-dampers has been studied for many years by the authors as an alternative seismic protection strategy for new and existing frame structures. As a concluding stage of this activity, a set of demonstrative case studies was examined to illustrate the enhancement of seismic performance and the economic advantages guaranteed ...
متن کاملSeismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Pier Anchorage Connections
In assessments of the seismic adequacy of existing steel bridges, the steel-to-concrete anchorage connections typically found at the base of steel truss piers can be potentially vulnerable, having little to no ductility and inadequate strength to resist seismic demands. Many other non-ductile failure locations may also exist along the seismic load path. Failure would result in unacceptable perf...
متن کاملUsing Composites in Seismic Retrofit Applications
This report was prepared to provide a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art for using composite materials for seismic retrofit applications. The emphasis is on seismic retrofit of reinforced concrete columns. The report is presented in eleven chapters. Chapters 1–3 provide a basic introduction to composite materials, including discussions on the types of matrix and reinforcement material...
متن کاملductility-based seismic design of steel plate shear walls: practical application using standard sections
over the past decade of extensive research works, the thin un-stiffened steel plate shear wall(spsw) has now emerged as a promising lateral load resisting system. considering thedemand of performance-based seismic design (pbsd) philosophy in current and futureseismic design codes, a ductility-based design was recently proposed for spsw systems withpin-connected boundary beams. however, the effe...
متن کاملSeismic Retrofit of Bridge Steel Truss Piers Using a Controlled Rocking Approach
This paper investigates a seismic retrofit technique that allows bridge steel truss piers to uplift and rock on their foundation. Displacement-based passive energy dissipation devices buckling-restrained braces, or BRBs are implemented at the uplifting location to control the rocking response while providing additional energy dissipation. The hysteretic behavior of the controlled rocking system...
